Mountain Gorilla Trekking is one of the most sought tour activities in Uganda and Rwanda. Coming face-to-face with these gentle giants is a thrilling and memorable safari adventure. In Uganda, Gorilla trekking is done in two places – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. In Rwanda, it is done in Volcanoes National Park, a section of the great Virunga Mountains. This is one of the most exciting wildlife experiences one can have on an African holiday.
The gorilla trekking experience is beyond expectation – the environment in which the gorillas are found is captivating and memorable. The fact that gorillas share about 98% of their DNA with humans, seeing these Mountain gentle giants on day tours is remarkable. Gorilla Trekking creates a special and unique bond between humans and these great apes. But above all, habituated gorilla families in Uganda and Rwanda have brought in the much-needed revenue to help in the conservation of mountain gorillas. Each traveler who treks to the gorillas contributes a fair amount of money for a gorilla permit. This money is used by different non-profit conservation organizations, Uganda Wildlife Authority and Rwandan National Parks Authority – RDB to enhance effective gorilla conservation in these two countries. The habituation process is a gradual process where wild mountain gorillas get used to the presence of humans.
