Rongai Route (6 Days)
This 6 day hiking tour ascents Kilimanjaro from the north-eastern side of Mountain Kilimanjaro, along the border between Kenya and Tanzania.

Day One: Rongai Gate (1950m) to 1st Caves camp (2600m)
Depart Arusha and drive to the Rongai gate, located in the northeast of Kilimanjaro. Hike to the first cave camp. Hiking duration is 3-4 hours.
Dinner and overnight at First Cave Camp.

Day Two: 1st Cave camp (2600m) to Kikelewa Caves (3600m)

Today, have an early breakfast then climb to the Second Cave (located at 3450m), where you will have lunch. After Lunch, climb via the Mawenzi trail and continue to the Kikelewa Cave. Dinner and overnight at the campsite near Kikelewa Caves (3600m).
Hiking duration is between 6-7 hours.

Day Three: Kikelewa Cave (3600m) to Mawenzi Tarn camp (4330m)
Enjoy this day treking to the Mawenzi Tarn hut, located at a height of 4330m, for camping. Upon arrival at Mawenzi Tarn hut, spend the rest of the hours exploring the environment and resting as a way of acclimatization.
Hiking duration is between 5-6 hours.

Day Four: Mawenzi Tarn camp (4330m) to Kibo hut (4700m)

This morning, you will climb and reach the Kibo hut (4700m). Have dinner and overnight at the School Campsite which is located at the foot of the Kibo crater wall. Hiking duration is 4-5 hours.

Day Five: Kibo hut (4700m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) to Horombo hut (3720m)
Immediately after midnight, start trailing through the volcanic scree to the crater rim at Gillman’s Point on 5700m and finally reach Uhuru Peak on 5895m (the highest point of Africa). This trail will take about 8 hours. Have some rest as you take pictures and enjoy watching a wonderful scenery of the sun rise. Start descending to the Horombo hut campsite, where you will have your overnight. Duration of this descent is about 5-6 hours.

Day Six: Horombo hut (3720m) to Marangu Gate (1980m)
On this last day of the tour, after having your breakfast, descend from Horombo hut to the Marangu gate. This descent will last between 6-7 hours.
At Marangu gate, you will be met by the company guide/driver to transfer to your hotel or the airport, in Arusha.
