The best time to visit is December to February and from May to July. During August to October, the wildebeests are best viewed while on a Kenya safari since during that period, the wildebeests are grazing on the sweet grass in the Masai Mara.
11 Days Serengeti Wildebeest Migration Safari
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha
Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro international Airport, meet and greet with our company representative who will then transfer you to your hotel in Arusha for bed and breakfast.
Day 2: Arusha to Lake Manyara Park (Transit: Apprx. 2hrs through 130kms)
After an early breakfast, depart Arusha with your packed lunch to Lake Manyara Game Park for game viewing. Have lunch in the park picnic area then continue to your safari lodge / campsite to check-in and have dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Lake Manyara to Serengeti Park (Transit: Apprx. 3-4hrs through 190kms)
Early breakfast then prepare to depart Lake Manyara Game Park and drive to Serengeti Game Reserve as you enjoy game en-route to the great Serengeti Plains via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You reach your safari lodge / safari campsite in time for your lunch. After lunch, go for game drive around Seronera or trace the direction of the wildebeest migration. Later, return to your accommodation for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Game in Serengeti Central Area
Enjoy full day game watching in the central region of the Serengeti. After breakfast, receive your packed lunch-box and head for the morning game drive on the Serengeti Park acacia Savannah in the central to the east region. After your picnic lunch, proceed with the afternoon game drive tour in search for more wildlife. From mid-January to February, March to mid-April, 95% of female wildebeests mate (an approximate total of 600,000), and then 8 months to 8.5 months later, those females that conceived give birth on the same southern plains after a long travel through Tanzania to Kenya and back. Return to your safari accommodation in the evening, for your dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Game in Serengeti Southern Area
Enjoy full day game watching in the southern Serengeti. Enjoy your morning breakfast, get your packed lunchbox and depart your safari accommodation for another game viewing on Serengeti Park. The wildebeest migration can be seen on a long chain approximately 40kms heading to the south western direction. After lunch, take a rest before proceeding with your game viewing to follow the movement of the migrants on the southwest of the park. Approximately 1.3 million wildebeests, 250,000 gazelles and 200,000 Zebras have been recorded sharing the short grass and water. Return to your safari accommodation in the evening, to relax at leisure as you await your dinner. Enjoy overnight at your safari lodge / safari camp.
Day 6: Depart Serengeti for Ngorongoro Conservation Area
Have an early morning breakfast, then checkout of your safari accommodation in Serengeti to drive to Ngorongoro with en-route game watching. Choose whether to pass by Oldupai Gorge - a historical site where early man lived; or pass by the Maasai boma – to view the real African life tradition and the Masai culture. Have your dinner and overnight at your safari lodge / safari camp in Ngorongoro.
Day 7: Full day in Ngorongoro Crater Tour – Trip to Crater Floor
Have your morning breakfast then descend into the crater floor with your lunchbox for game viewing. The famous Ngorongoro Crater is rich of wildlife where each species have own territories. The best time to visit the crater is during the end of the long rain season. During late April to the month of May, a large number of animals come out for green grass and water enabling the traveller to easily spot them.
Enjoy your packed lunch on the crater floor at the picnic site near Lerai forest or hippo pool. Many travellers to the crater like to see rare species such as the Black Rhinoceros which are very hard to see during the dry season because they are afraid of sun burn. Later afternoon, ascend the crater for your dinner and overnight on the crater rim, safari accommodation.
Day 8: Depart Ngorongoro Crater - transfer to Tarangire Game Park
This morning, after your breakfast, check-out of your safari accommodation to depart Ngorongoro with your packed lunch box and drive to Tarangire Park for more game drives. In Tarangire park, the world large mammals such as the Elephants are very common and the world large trees like Baobab Trees are everywhere on the park. Have dinner and overnight in your safari lodge / safari camp.
Day 9: Full day in Tarangire National Park
Have your morning breakfast and the rest of the morning at leisure while you wait for lunch where you will enjoy a hot meal. After having lunch, relax at leisure as you await departure for an evening game drive in Tarangire Park. After the game drive, return to your safari lodge / safari camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Depart Tarangire - transfer to Arusha
Early morning breakfast then check-out of your safari accommodation to leave Tarangire for Arusha town. Safari clients can choose to pass by Meserani Snake Park - perfect place to have your packed lunch and also enables safari clients have the opportunity to shop around and purchase souvenirs from the many en-route curio shops with the guidance of our safari guides in regards to safety. Have an afternoon arrival into Arusha town where safari client checks into the hotel. Evening drive to the centre of Arusha town at the Central Market for bird watching such birds like sacred ibis, hummercop and hadad ibis that are arriving from Lake Natron, Lake Manyara and Lake Eyasi. Have dinner and overnight at your hotel in Arusha.
Day 11: Transfer from Arusha to Airport
After having your breakfast at leisure, you will checkout of your hotel and be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight back home.
