Semuliki National Park
Semuliki National Park:
This largely forested park represents the eastern most limit of the great ituri forest of the Congo Basin and contains numerous species associated with Central rather than Eastern Africa. Semliki is the only park in Uganda composed primarily of tropical lowland forest. The land is quite flat, creating a startling contrast to the rugged Rwenzori mountains nearby. Semliki National Park provides a taste of Central Africa.
Size: The Park is 220sq km.
Location:
Semuliki National Park lies in the isolated Bundibugyo district, beyond the Rwenzori Mountain on the floor of the semliki section of the Albertine Rift Valley.
Located in the extreme west of Uganda in Bundibugyo District, it lies along the Uganda and Congo Border within the western arm of the rift valley.
Getting There:
It takes 2 hours from Fort Portal, on the Fort Portal-Bundibugyo Road to reach the park. It is accessible by public transport from Fort Portal..

- Sempaya Hot springs
- Butterflies (almost 300 species of butterflies)
- 400 Bird species (Rough estimate).

Activities:
Sempaya hot spring are Semuliki’s most famous attraction. Visit the springs which are set in a lush swampy clearing close to the south eastern corner of the forest.
Sempaya- Ntandi road run s through one of the loveliest tracts of the forest in Uganda and provides clear views up into the forest canopyto sport birds and monkeys.
A walk to Semliki River is a must for Birders seeking Semuliki Specials.
The monkey trail runs from Sempaya to reach the river as it emerges from the forest. Have the opportunity to sight grassland as well as forest birds.
