Other Genocide Sites

Africa genocide memorial sites are a historical reminder of terrifying acts in Africa. The genocide in Rwanda left many Rwandan citizens at mostly terrified. Some Genocide Memorial sites are Nyanza genocide memorial site and Nyarubuye genocide memorial site.

Nyamata Genocide Site

Africa genocide memorial sites are a historical reminder of some of the most devastating human acts in Africa. Situated in the Bugesera district of Rwanda just a distance from Kigali, the Capital city of Rwanda, Nyamata experienced the most horrifying acts during the April 1994 Genocide. Nyamata Catholic Church was used as a refuge by the Rwandese, with the thought that the militia would not get in and kill them in a place usually thought of as a sanctuary. Unfortunately, the militia were able to get to them. The church is now kept as a memorial site.

Ntarama Momorial Site

The church at Ntarama was seen as a safe place by almost 5000 people, many of whom were women and children and who went there for sanctuary. But Ntarama, in Kigali - the Capital city of Rwanda, was not a safe place. The victims of the genocide still remain there, at the place now known as the Ntarama genocide memorial site

Murambi Memorial Center

Murambi genocide memorial center is a permanent exhibition site to the Rwandan genocide that took place in 1994.The most graphic memorial in Rwanda, Murambi center was where the massacre of an estimated 40,000 occured. Tutsis had sought refuge with the encouragement of their community leaders. Only two known survivors of the massacre now work as guides there.

Kigali Memorial Center

Kigali Memorial Center is an international historical and educational centre. Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre was opened on the 10th Anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide. Created by the Kigali City Council and UK-based Aegis Trust, its funded by a number of donors worldwide.

Camp Kigali Genocide Site

Camp Kigali is another of the many Rwanda genocide memorial sites. It was at Camp Kigali that 10 Belgian UN Blue Berets where massacred by the Presidential Guard soldiers, on the first day of the 1994 Rwanda genocide. The Belgians had been deployed to guard the house of moderate Prime Minister Agatha Uwilingimana.

Bisesero Genocide Memorial

Bisesero is a mountainous region situated about 31 km from the lakeside town of Kibuye. The place is now known as Hill of Resistance because of the heroic resistance mounted by the people of Bisesero, during the 1994 Rwanda genocide. About 50,000 people were killed at this genocide memorial site.

Rhino Tracking
